Marilynn L. Dunten, age 94, formerly of LaGrange, Ind., died peacefully in her sleep of natural causes on July 26, 2010, at Heather Hills Care Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was born September 29, 1915, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Glenn and Oma (Shoup) Knauss. Living most of her life in LaGrange, she graduated Valedictorian from LaGrange High School, Cum Laude from Butler University in 1937, and was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta and the Scarlet Quill which later became Phi Beta Kappa. She was a homemaker, Girl Scout Leader, Sunday School Teacher and taught Home Economics at LaGrange and Lakeland High Schools. She retired from teaching in 1977. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange, Tri-Kappa and Coterie. She enjoyed playing Bridge and golf, gardening, flower arranging and watercolor painting. She was a selfless, loving, supportive and kind wife, mother, grandmother, teacher and friend. She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed by all. She was married on June 15, 1941, to Jack P. Dunten, former LaGrange County Circuit Court Judge, who preceded her in death on December 25, 2000. Surviving are a son and daughter –in-law, Frank G. and Jennifer (Lloyd) Dunten of Grand Rapids, Michigan; a daughter, Judy Dunten of Rockford, Michigan; eight grandchildren, Jessica (Dunten) Anderson, Erica, Jennifer, Katherine, Daniel and Jacqueline Dunten, Kristi (Blank) Cox and Paul Blank; three great-grandchildren, Kaitlynne, Anderson Joseph Cox and Lauren Anderson. Marilynn was preceded in death by her parents, a husband and a daughter, Karen (Dunten) Blank in 1995. Graveside services will be held at Greenwood Cemetery at 11am on Friday, August 13, 2010 with the Rev. Ken Weaver officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange or the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children. Arrangements are being handled by Frurip-May Funeral Home, LaGrange, Ind.
