Thelma Nielsen, 93, of Indianapolis, IN and formerly of LaGrange County, IN, died Monday, March 8, 2010 at the home she and her daughter shared.
In 1934, Mrs. Nielsen moved to LaGrange County where she lived until moving to Indianapolis in 1997. She was a homemaker, a clerk at the former Douglas' Department Store and The Dime Store, both in LaGrange. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, American Legion Post #215 and had volunteered at the LaGrange County Clothes and Food Basket all in LaGrange, IN.
Mrs. Nielsen was born on July 24, 1916 in Kempton, IL to John and Elizabeth (Harder) Benske; they precede her in death. On September 19, 1936 in LaGrange, IN she married Daine Nielsen; he preceded her in death on April 4, 1982.
Surviving are two daughters, Lynne Christenson and Victoria "Vikki" Carroll both of Indianapolis; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Also preceding her in death was a daughter, Diane Propps on February 5, 2004; her twin sister, Velma Bortner; and a brother, Darrell Benske.
According to her wishes cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Frurip-May Funeral Home in LaGrange, IN. Visitation will take place one hour prior to services.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in LaGrange, IN.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in to LaGrange County Clothes and Food Basket.
